On-site notational drawing of waterbird on the canal
Presentation at AA school, London
Secret Vein
from the presentation -
I’m focused on water birds that named Coot on the canal.
First I found some nests of them, consist of mostly branch and some rubbish.
I thought it’s interesting situation because it shows good relationship between objects reduced by human and birds living.
So drawing1 I draw trajectory of them, choosing sites which they made nests on.
Second I drew humans moving on the pedestrian road which is parallel to the canal. most of people don’t care about birds but some people react to them. Here is their trajectory separated by the two pattern.
During the research on the site, I got some of reaction about the nests. An old woman who was seeing the nest next to me, to see me, she smiled to me. we were watching together.
And on the another place when I was taking photos of the nest, an old lady told me, “ That’s not a beautiful photo, it’s just a rubbish."
So there is different point of view how we see the nest. Is that just a rubbish or where animal inhabit? They have some kind of power that make the canal different to see.
In King’s Cross redevelopping area, they have open space in front of canal with a lot of floating matter. There are some coots correct rubbish to make their living on this area, like that they ”sublime” objects which human reduced. I want to say this system, “secret vein on urban."
